A discarded cigarette may have been responsible for the two-alarm Bender Road blaze, Police Chief Mark Messner said.

No one was inside at the time, he said.

The two-story home was severely damaged.

Joining their colleages were firefighters from Ho-Ho-Kus, Midland Park, Mahwah, Saddle River, Upper Saddle River and Wyckoff, along with the borough Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
